Networking and Capacity Building of Women Entrepreneurs (SMEs) from SAARC Countries
- Development of a Web Portal for networking of women SMEs in SAARC region to promote:
- Women entrepreneurial networks for advancement of their businesses at regional level.
- Co-operation and partnerships for promotion of their products at regional level.
- Facilitate Women entrepreneurial activities for betterment of their economies.
Networking would encourage and promote co-operation and partnerships between the business women and facilitate entrepreneurial activities at regional and sub-regional levels resulting to betterment of their economy and thus leading to poverty reduction.
Technology, particularly the information and communication technology (ICTs), is viewed as a potent force in transforming social, economic and political life across the globe. In many instances, the continuous development and application of technology has created vast new economic and employment opportunities.
Women empowerment is a key to economic turnaround since women participation in economic activities are considered must to achieve the targets set for progress and prosperity particularly in South Asia where women accounts for more than half of the total population. The purpose of empowerment of women in South Asia is to bring them into mainstream of development to the journey of progress and prosperity. They should be encouraged to come forward and play their part in socio-economic development.
The growth of women entrepreneurs in SAARC countries challenged by lack of encourage and promote co-operation and partnerships between the business women access to ICTs, insufficient entrepreneurial and management skills, together with problems in finding markets for their products, services and lack of information about innovative technologies. Training in the use of information technology is essential and a key step in taking advantage of emerging economic opportunities.
Besides women entrepreneurial networks and portals in developed countries have proved to and facilitated their entrepreneurial activities for betterment of their economies. The SAARC women entrepreneurs could also play a vital role for development of South Asia if they are provided equal opportunities and resources like the women from developed world.
Stronger cooperation between the businesswomen in the South Asian region is compulsory to increase their trade, and avail the equal opportunities and resources to cope with poverty and hunger in the region. Development of a SAARC women entrepreneur’s Portal would certainly encourage and promote co-operation and partnerships between the business women and facilitate their entrepreneurial endeavors leading to their Socio-economic up lift in the region. Through these networks good practices that are identified would be disseminated and shared regionally.
