Professional experience:

Mr. Sayed Zeeshan Ali is working as Assistant Director with the SAARC Development Fund (2017 – ongoing) in the Economic and Infrastructure Funding Windows.  He is overseeing the fund’s investment in sustainable infrastructure projects in eight SAARC member countries – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. 

Mr. Ali has around 15 years of experience in financing sustainable projects in clean energy, low emission and climate resilient infrastructure in South Asia.  He has extensive experience in project design & development, project appraisal and processing, execution and implementation, monitoring and evaluation of large climate resilient infrastructure projects in run-of-river scheme hydropower generation, power electrical transmission and distribution, solar –photo voltaic projects, energy efficiency program and nature-based solutions.  He is highly skilled and trained in all stages of project life cycle development and financing.  

Mr. Ali has worked with Asian Development Bank in the South Asia Regional Department for around six years (2011- 2017) in financing sovereign projects in clean energy and climate resilience infrastructure in the region. He has a cumulative experience of administering sovereign loans of more than USD 2 billion.  Prior to working with ADB, he has worked as an Engineer with the French energy giant - Areva (2007-2011) in development of renewable energy and power transmission & distribution infrastructure in India.   

Mr. Ali holds an MBA (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) with specialization in International Business from All India Management Association – Centre of Management Education and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from West Bengal University of Technology. Currently he is also pursuing Master of Leadership in Sustainable Finance with specialization in Green Finance from Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Germany.  He has been extensively trained in climate finance, project management, financial management, procurement and contract administration and renewable energy technologies & policies by various multilaterals and international institutes.
