Project Highlights
Project Title: Strengthening the livelihood initiative for homebased workers in SAARC Region (Phase I and II)
- Trade Facilitation Centers established in Bhutan, Nepal Pakistan and Sri Lanka;
- SABAH registered in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka;
- 7,223 Home-based Workers (HBWs) reached out so far by the project in seven SAARC Member States;
- 4,464 HBWs have been registered in Seven Member States;
- 4,588 HBWs trained in technical, managerial and leadership skills in food processing, embroidery and garmenting;
- 2,906 HBWs were provided with work from the TFCs;
- Total sales proceeds and earnings of HBWs are respectively USD 353,860.00 and 250,408.00;
- Total eleven (11) sales outlets are operative in Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka from respective SABAH in countries;
Project Title: Strengthening Maternal and Child Health Including Immunization
- Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka received medical equipment;
- Training for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and demonstration of Medical equipment by supplier of the equipment completed in Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka;
- Training of Trainers (TOT) completed in Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka;
- Civil work is in progress in Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka;
- Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) floated on 31st March, 2013 for procurement of equipment for phase II countries i.e. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka and consumables for all seven participating countries;
Project Title: Scaling up of Zero Energy Cold Storage (ZECS) technology for the horticultural commodities in the high hills of SAARC countries.
- 2,711 farmers trained on Quality Production using beneficial microbes (Jeevatu);
- Construction of ZECS is on an average 98% complete in 6 sites of Nepal and storing of fruits and vegetables has started;
- Construction of ZECS in Bhutan is complete for 4 sites, storage of fruits is expected in June, 2013;
- Implementation of the project in India and Afghanistan is not satisfactory at this stage.
Project Title: Empowering Rural Communities "Reaching the Unreached"
- Construction of 50 Community Centers in Bhutan is expected to be completed by July, 2013;
- Civil work for 2 CeC islands is completed and other 29 CeC islands is in progress in Maldives and procurement of equipment for 48 CeC islands is in progress in Maldives;
- Tender notice for procurement of equipment for 200 UISCs of Bangladesh floated in March, 2013 and is in the process of evaluation of submitted bids;
- Implementation of project in Nepal is not satisfactory at this stage.
Project Title: South Asia Initiative to End Violence Against Children (SAIEVAC)
- Strategic Planning Workshop held in Thimphu, Bhutan on 19th – 21st March, 2012. Representatives of 7 SAARC countries participated;
- Regional Children Consultation, Technical Consultation and Governing Board Meeting held on 25th-31stMay, 2012 in Colombo by National and Regional Children Consultation Group;
- Advocacy and Communication workshop held in Male from 16-21 January, 2013.
- Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka are implementing the project; and Afghanistan and Pakistan are in the process of starting implementation of the project.
Project Title: Post Harvest Management and Value Addition of Fruits in Production Catchments in SAARC Countries
- Project Financing Agreement signed for Bangladesh and Pakistan. Signing of Project Financing Agreements (PFAs) is in process for Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal; and
- Government of Maldives expressed interest to participate in the 2nd phase of the project and in the process of submitting proposal as per SDF format.
